What We’ve Been Reading

August 26, 2011

It turned out to be quite the week. Not only are we bracing for Hurricane Irene, but we made it through an Earthquake!  Afraid to say there’s not much good news below.

NPR reports on a new study which found that 97% of OB-GYNs have encountered patients wanting an abortion but only 14% of doctors provide them.

Texas Governor and Republican Presidential hopeful, Rick Perry, signs the Susan B. Anthony’s List anti-choice pledge.  In other Perry news, he can’t tell you why, but he’s pretty sure abstinence only sex education works, even if statistics from his own state say otherwise.  Are we surprised by any of this? Didn’t think so.

In case you missed The Maddow Show this week, here are our highlights: “Virginia Attacks Legal Abortion With Excessive Regulation” and “US Suffering Big Rollback of Abortion Rights

The sexual-assault charges that were brought up against Dominique Strauss-Kahn have been dropped.  Sigh.

And last but certainly not least,  Happy Women’s Equality Day! Don’t miss Senator Gillibrand’s amazing blog post about the day.

And just to end on a high note with a little Friday Fun:
