What We’ve Been Reading

September 3, 2010

Do you use foursquare?  Time to check in at a PP near you – just make sure you remember to get tested while you’re there!

The Great Recession causes people to have less kids, and that makes them more worried about the costs of birth control.  But please note: PPHP doesn’t endorse U.S. News and World Report’s assessment that the diaphragm is the most cost-effective form of birth control – every woman has to assess the best method, including considering its costs, with a health care provider she trusts.  Call us for an appointment today!

Dr. LeRoy Carhart gave this amazing  speech at the 2010 National Organization for Women Conference in Boston. Pretty powerful stories.

While  it’s good news that single, childless, Gen Y women are out earning men in some US cities (maybe?), we still have a long way to go towards gender equality. And what about working mothers?  Apparently they’re still earning less than men.

This is pretty funny, and a great way to start the weekend.  Of course you should be proud to wear a condom, but there is a time and a place for everything.

Speaking of safer sex…Governor’s Pawlenty and MacDonell are applying for abstinence only sex ed funding from the health care reform law they opposed.  Not only that but the abstinence only funding requires a 75% state match, where as the comprehensive sex ed money requires no match at all. Interesting.
