It’s a mix this week – some good news, some funny stuff, and of course, the tragedy of Savita.

I’ll start with your Friday Funny: from The Daily Show, The Married vs. Single Woman Vote.

And for the good:  We LOVE this video where Supreme Court Justice Justice Sonia Sotomayor gives Abby Cadabby career advice on Sesame Street!

And, the United Nations Declares Access To Contraception A ‘Universal Human Right’.  That’s right – birth control/family planning/access to affordable contraception, these are basic necessities that all human beings deserve.

On to the bad news, out of Ohio: Ohio Committee Votes To Defund Planned Parenthood.  Tell Ohio lawmakers that they should heed the lessons from the election.

Plus, a new study shows Denying Women Abortion Access Increases Their Risk Of Falling Into Poverty.

And, Savita.  Savita Halappanavar.  If you have  not heard of Savita, read this for whole news story.  Then, read Jessica Valenti’s call for justice for Savita, and Katha Pollitt’s connection to U.S. politics.  And, from the Abortion Gang, read a pro-choice MD’s take on what it must be like for doctors living under such a vague and restrictive legal framework.  Lisa or I will write soon with more on this.  In the meantime, our hearts go out to Savita’s family.
