What We've Been Reading (and Watching)

The outrageous Let Women Die bill is still in the news.  The best of this week in opinions and stories:

Because, if you haven’t figured it out already, this bill is all about playing politics with women’s lives.

What you don’t know about women who have abortions.

Thanks, Rachel Maddow.  It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who is teaching politicians how babies are made.  It’s more than “troubling” that someone running for President doesn’t know how birth control works. (Then again, he’s not alone among elected officials).

I am equally troubled that another Presidential candidate thinks birth control is dangerous.  It’s a license to “do things”.  (Do we really need a sex-negative President?)  The way they are talking on the GOP campaign trail, you would think that sex is bad.

Herman Cain’s idea of pro-choice: it’s up to you to decide whether or not to have an illegal abortion.

Fertilized eggs aren’t people.   So, if you’ve got friends in Mississippi, send them a great big “Vote No” message. 

It seems that Robert P. George  and Melissa Moschella didn’t get the memo:  Ninety-three percent of parents believe it is important for sex education to be taught in high schools, and that programs should include information on healthy relationships, STDs, birth control methods, and abstinence.  

College students (who didn’t get sex ed) and what they don’t know about sex — that’s why we’ll always need Our Bodies Our Selves.
